How to play GeoPursuit
Last updated: 15 October 2026
GeoPursuit is a free geography game that runs in your browser. Every round names a place — a Roman town, a film location, a volcano, a stadium — and you find it on a 3D globe. The closer your pin lands to the real spot, the more points you score, up to 1,000 per question. This page walks through one round from start to finish.
1. Read the clue
At the top of the screen is the question: the name of a place, sometimes a short description, and for many questions a photograph. The question tells you what to find, never where it is. Some places are single points (a city, a temple, a stadium); others are areas (an empire, a region, an island group), and for those the game measures your distance to the edge of the area instead of to a single dot.
2. Turn the globe and place a pin
Drag to spin the globe. Scroll the wheel, or pinch on a phone, to zoom. Tap or click where you think the place is and a pin appears; tap somewhere else to move it. Zooming in lets you be precise, but looking at the planet from far away is rewarded with a small bonus, so you do not have to zoom in on every guess (see how scoring works).
3. Lock it in
Press Confirm when you are happy with the pin. There is a timer, but it is generous: thinking time only changes a small part of the score, because GeoPursuit rewards knowing things more than reacting fast. In the head-to-head modes the clock matters more, because your opponent is waiting.
4. See the answer
The camera flies to the real location and a result panel shows how far off you were, how many points you earned and a short fact about the place. Photographs carry their author and licence, because most of them come from Wikimedia Commons. If a question looks wrong to you, you can report it from the result panel.
5. Keep going
A daily run is five questions, a practice run is ten, and a ranked duel lasts until one player's health bar is empty. When a run ends you see your total, and the leaderboard shows how you compare with other players that week. Each mode is described on the game modes page.
Do I need an account?
No. Without an account you can play one daily mode straight away. Signing in (with an email link, Google or Discord) saves your progress, gives you a character, puts you on the leaderboard and unlocks practice, ranked 1v1 and the Battle Royale.
