About GeoPursuit

Last updated: 15 October 2026

GeoPursuit is an independent geography game made in Vienna, Austria. It started from a simple idea: a daily puzzle about the world that takes five minutes, is the same for everybody and teaches you something every time.

What it is

You are given the name of a place and you find it on a 3D globe. Behind that sit a daily challenge, unlimited practice in fifteen categories, ranked one-on-one duels and an eight-player Battle Royale. The look is pixel art, the globe is a real 3D Earth, and every answer comes with a short fact. See how to play and the game modes.

Where the data comes from

Satellite imagery is NASA's Blue Marble, which is in the public domain. Country borders come from Natural Earth (public domain) and street maps from OpenStreetMap contributors and HERE. Many History questions start from the Pleiades gazetteer of ancient places and are reviewed by hand. Photographs are from Wikimedia Commons and always show their author and licence.

Quality and fairness

Questions are checked for places that cannot be pinned fairly, such as whole rivers or regions, and players can report any question from the result panel. Ranked matches are decided by the server, not by your browser, so scores cannot be edited from the client.

Languages and accessibility

The interface is available in 25 languages, and questions are translated on demand. The game works on phones, tablets and computers in a normal browser.

Your data

We store what is needed to run accounts and the leaderboard, and nothing more. Visitor counts are first-party and cookie-free. The privacy notice lists every item and the reason for it, and you can export or delete your data from your account in the game.
